Lean and Agile

Lean and Agile methodologies have been in use for some time and with their adoption in day-to-day operations it helps to understand certain terms and concepts that are now part of our normal vocabulary. Here is the opportunity to learn more about them.

TQM uses Deming Cycle as a tool for continuous improvement in processes with an aim to improve quality of product and processes. This concept has been adapted in Agile and Lean for product development by incrementally adding value.

Netwoked Organization

Industrial revolution introduced concept of hierarchical structure to manage people in an organization. This model was useful when skill needed was not creative or knowledge based. In knowledge industry, networked organization allowed free flow of ideas, thereby facilitating collaboration and innovation.

Value Stream Management

Value Stream Mapping is a process management tool that helps in visualization of how an organization or an entity delivers products, solutions or services to customers, both external and internal.

Flow with Kanban

The motivation of Value Stream Mapping is to define a sequence of activity that are adding value at each step as an item under process moves through. The productivity of the value stream is determined by items continuously flowing through to make best use of capacity. Kanban is a tool that can help visualize this flow of items on continuous basis.

Requirement Definition and Management

Requirements are the specification of the value intended to be created for the customer. In SAFe, Requirements are defined at different granularity levels like EPICs, Capability, Features and User Stories. Technical requirements are added as Enablers.
